Key Information

Langdale Nursery School was built in 1966 and has been providing the children of Clayton and the surrounding areas with excellent early years education ever since.

  • The nursery is a 52 place Nursery School (Part time places only e.g. 26 am and 26 pm). The educational sessions are either 9.00 a.m until 11.30 a.m. or 12.30 pm until 3.00 pm.
  • Since September 2006, we have been able to offer Wraparound Care, provided on site by Langdale Infants’ Care Club staff. Sessions are flexible from 8.00 am – 5.00 pm to provide extended care, and to support our educational provision (contact Mrs Sue Thomson telephone number 07816544303).
  • There is one intake of children each year in September, this is done over a few weeks to ensure all children settle. Children have to have had their 3rd birthday by August 31st to be admitted in the September for the following academic year.
  • If the number of pupils seeking admission to the school exceeds the number of places available, then the following order of priority will be used;
    1. Pupil’s living within the catchment area of the school.
    2. Pupils who would be joining the Nursery and have an older brother or sister in attendance at the affiliated Schools ie Langdale Infants and Langdale Juniors.
    3. Pupils who satisfy both of the following tests:
      • They are distinguished from the great majority of other applicants either on medical grounds which are supported by a medical report, obtained from parents, specifying the medical priority of the child attending the preferred school compared with the normal catchment area school or by other exceptional circumstances material to the choice of school (i.e. the circumstances of the child, not the economic or social circumstances of the parent);

              and

4. They would suffer hardship if they were unable to attend the school.

  • Other pupils arranged in order of priority according to how near their home addresses are to the school, measurements being by the nearest walking route.

Special Education Needs

The Nursery aims to provide a firm foundation for your child’s future education. Staff will be delivering a carefully planned programme to support your child’s development which will be regularly monitored.

Any child experiencing physical or educational difficulties will be supported both individually and sensitively by trained staff who will provide a nurturing environment to promote their achievements. At Langdale Nursery we are fortunate enough to have regular interaction from specialist agencies who give consistent advice and support, not only to benefit our children but also whole families where necessary. Our Special Needs Policy together with other school policies are available in school for you to read at your leisure.
